Item430: Determine effort required to be supported by Fantastico autoinstaller
Priority: Enhancement
Current State: No Action Required

Fanatastico (now Fantastico de Luxe) is a plugin to the Cpanel interface used by many shared hosting providers to give their customers a web interface to install web applications and adminster their sites.
It will help significantly in the adoption of Foswiki if it's possible for folks using one of the low cost shared hosting options can quickly try out twiki by installing it via the auto install service.
Here's a blurb from the Fantastico site "Fantastico De Luxe is the leading autoinstaller for cPanel servers. With more than 10.000 installations, it provides more than one million end users the ability to quickly install dozens of the leading open source content management systems into their web space."
Lots of shared hosting providers use Fantastico. Here's the list can be found on the left side of this page:

More Fantastico at wikipedia, including some of the security concerns...

Currently, only two wiki's are supported by the autoinstaller:
TikiWiki and
PhpWiki. (Here's the list of all apps -
http://www.netenberg.com/fantastico_scripts.php )
Probably the next step would be to simply post a request to add
FosWiki to the list of supported applications, and offer to provide any technical assistance to the folks at nettenberg to facilitate this...
This seems to be the place to post the request:

i'm wondering how we can measure installations made via fantastico, also related to marketing.

Tom, as for now nobody stepped forward to make this happen, are you able and willing to spend some time on this? Otherwise we have to reshape this task in some other form, probably by making a
FantasticoAutoinstaller topic first which brainstorms your ideas in more detail. At least this good idea won't be lost in the mist.
