We updated our site - installing the latest version of EditChapterPlugin and JSQueryPlugin (both at 4.10). The "pencil" for EditChapter appears but when you select it, nothing happens.

Our site is running Foswiki version Foswiki-1.1.3, Sat, 16 Apr 2011, build 11475, Plugin API version 2.1

-- JoeMarandola - 15 Sep 2011

gac410 (GeorgeClark) noted the same with Foswiki 1.1.4. I couldn't duplicate this on my 1.1.3, as I couldn’t' get the pencil to appear.

This one needs more info:

  • which other plugins are you using?
  • which browser are you using?
  • any javascript error?
  • any error log on the server side?
  • try to check xhr communication on the browser's console (using firebug or chrome):
    • does it generate any ajax call?
    • grab the xhr link and open it up on a separate tab: what does it return?
  • remove the rest script from {AuthScripts} in your foswiki configuration

-- MichaelDaum - 27 Oct 2011

I had the following issues on my 1.1.4 system
  • the jsonxml script was failing - unable to find setlib.cfg. Fixed by syncing up with the other bin scripts.
  • The switchboard entry is old format - (no => notation). I updated, but may be wrong
  • Removed rest script from AuthScripts - no impact.
After these changes, the json script worked, but clicking the pencil gave an error popup empty of any text. Tracing the http connection, it was getting a 404 status from the server.

This was a new 1.1.4-beta1 install, no other plugins other than default.

-- GeorgeClark - 29 Oct 2011

Other plugins:

Browser: Firefox 7.0.1 on Ubuntu 10.10

ERROR: (404) Invalid REST invocation - /RenderPlugin/template does not refer to a known handler

No error in the apache logs.

Removed rest script from AuthScripts - no impact.

Installed and enabled RenderPlugin - success!

-- JayenAshar - 05 Nov 2011

Re-added rest script to AuthScripts - gives a suspicious change request.

I got this error in attempting the same on IE8. I went and reinstalled JsonRpcContrib and still got the same error.

Another clue. When I have EditChapterPlugin enabled, we have an issue with "VarTOC". On each line of the TOC, it also has the topic name and the line number - something like "Heading 1: 'topicname' from 1 to 1" (sometype of debug?). When we disable EditChapterPlugin, the TOCs are then correct.

-- JoeMarandola - 14 Nov 2011

I believe this is caused by CommentPlugin as documented in Item11270

-- MyqLarson - 21 Nov 2011

I also have the pencil link do nothing. This seems to be because it is linking to bin/view/x rather than bin/edit/x

-- NickRyder - 06 Dec 2011

A new EditChapterPlugin will have to wait until after foswiki-1.1.4 has been released. That's because it requires the new JQueryPlugin that comes with 1.1.4.

-- MichaelDaum - 07 Dec 2011

The latest EditChapterPlugin depends on RenderPlugin.

-- MichaelDaum - 10 Jan 2012

Thanks for the info, Michael. Installed RenderPlugin and EditChapter came alive. Neat little edit window. Come up with a slight delay but beats searching for the text in a large document. We haven't tested how multiple edits work yet but we will.
