I work at a large Silicon Valley Internet Company. We have 850 1800 webs (and rising weekly) in the internal TWiki.

The company TWiki admins have finally agreed to install TagMePlugin. However, the only acceptable choice for us is to have it compartmentalized on a web-by-web basis.

From our TWiki admin:
So there are a couple problems that make this plugin unacceptable for now:

1. Tags are not per web as hoped, and display in a single drop-down for
add/remove, not a scalable solution.

2. Tag search is also global.

While we might be able to solve one or both of those problems, it goes
beyond "install this plugin" and so we'll put this on hold for now and
prioritize it with other development efforts later in the quarter.

I think this would be an extremely valuable plugin but it's got a bad showstopper feature right now. Please help!

I have the same here, although we only have 8 webs. The tags from one web have nothing to do with others. This is a must have option in most companies

If this is really a must have please consider funding a developer for this enhancement.

To add one more user voice to this bug: this would still be a very nice feature.

I agree it's an interesting feature, thus I will see if I can implement it.

My main concern is: Shall we keep the existing behavior, or make the tagging just per web? Some "old" installations might use the "all web" feature, especially for search.

I've checked the code yesterday, and it shouldn't be that hard to tune to make it per web. But if it's per web, then all existing tags would be lost.

Also, from what I could grasp, but I didn't double-check, if 2 different webs have the same topic, they'll get the same tags, right?

Side-note, I guess I will then have to tweak the TagCloudPlugin accordingly too, but that should be pretty trivial once this part is done. I hope I'll have some "free" time this week for it, it's challenging, and could help some people, so I like it smile

On 24 Oct 2007, Steffen Poulsen suggested "If this is really a must have please consider funding a developer for this enhancement." That's unlikely. We don't tend to fund external development. We're more likely to hire a contractor and maybe, if the priorities are right, have that person do something for us internally. And maybe, eventually, what we do will also get outside.

The World is more likely to see this feature if "someone else" funds the work. In fact, my COmpany is also more likely to use it if we don't need to add it to our own much too long ToDo list. (Performance enhancements are higher on The List than TagMePlugin. frown, sad smile

Has been implemented long time ago. The default is now: add tags to current web, search in current web.
