The example table in the EditingShorthand topic fails to correctly render the ^ rowspan markers

These are rendered by TablePlugin, not by core. The || colspan format works fine.

In addition, carats entered with ^ disappear from the rendered table.

Table from the EditingShorthand

A2 B2 C2
A3 B3 C3
multi span
A5-7 5 5
six six
seven seven
split over 3 lines
A9 B9 C9
^ B10 |
^ B11 |

Note that on a standalone topic, the last two lines render correctly, but they fail in EditingShorthand.

Closed; though beware the caveat that the documented escapes %CARET% and ^ for the caret symbol in a cell won't work. Use ^ instead (which will also work for TablePlugin)
