If the Main web (or USERSWEB in general) is write-protected, new user registrations fail because TWikiRegistrationAgent does not have ALLOWWEBCHANGE privileges in Main.

Unless it breaks something, TWikiRegistrationAgent should be added to Main's ALLOWWEBCHANGE by default, in case new installers write-protect their Main. At the very least, a note or comment should be placed above the area where you set the access-control variables in Main . WebPreferences.

Marking urgent per Lavr, so that this gets seen.

Need to discuss at release meeting

I agree with Michael. This only affects the TopicUserMappingContrib (currently the only module that supports registration) but that doesn't make it any less annoying.

Confirmed.

as pointed out in Item4868, the TWikiRegistrationAgent should really have a leave pass, and be in the TWikiAdminGroup.

This is a better solution than hoping that any admin creating their own USERSWEB knows about this odd little fellow (and makes Item169: separate the topicusermapper's topic into the contrib. more plausible too.)
