The documentation of PatternSkinCustomization contains a section of the use of VIEW_TEMPLATE (see PatternSkinCustomization#The_topic_template_approach_usin). In this section, there is the following description which does not apply to VIEW_TEMPLATE at all and should therefore be removed completey:

  • On topic creation you can set the topic template by passing templatetopic: 
       <input type="hidden" name="templatetopic" value="BlogPostViewTemplate" />
