Given this table

the documentation suggests that the A column should extend downward through the rows.

This is currently not working.

Instead, the second and third columns shift left and the 3rd column is empty.

I tested on (01 Aug 2008) and col spans from the header cells) works as expected.

This has been discussed in Item5865. In short: it is not possible. What does look like a bug is Item10016 that does not render rowspans with a multirow header (passing param headerrows).

And yes, we should improve the documentation on this as you suggested in Item5864.
