Backup Best Practices

Greetings,

I have a new installation of Foswiki and need to put in some temporary backup scripts. What are the back best practices with regards to which dirs to backup? Can I simply zip these dirs and restore on top of them to revert?

Thanks a bunch!

Ty

All your data is stored in the two directories data/ (topic text) and /pub (attachments). So basically, backing up these two directories should be enough (depending on your plugins, there is also some important content in working/). I usually zip the whole Foswiki directory since the overhead from system files is quite small compared to the actual content. Reverting to an older state is as simple as restoring the backed-up content.

As this question has come up several times, we've started a new FAQ to describe backup strategies. See Faq20
