Limits for storing Topics and Webs in Foswiki

Hello,

I am evaluating Wiki's for a large enterprise and i need the following information:

Are there limits in the amount of storing Webs and Topics in Foswiki?

Foswiki stores topics in files, so I don't know if there are problems if you store for example 100.000 topics, ordered in 100 webs.

Thank you!

Wolfgang

I heard rumors about a magic line at about 30.000 topics. Maybe CrawfordCurrie know more.

In our company the wiki has about 250 Webs and even though we use mod-perl the wiki is sluggish and tends to hang whenever there is a sudden burst in activity!

The limits are not set within Foswiki, they are dependent on the capabilities of your hardware, and the file system choices you make. This is similar to the limits you get when you tune your database servers - the true answer is always 'it depends'.

I have had webs with more than 100,000 topics on a not massively beefy system which didn't cause much in the way of performance issues, on the other hand, I have also brought my quad core dev box to its knees with very few topics and some very inadvisably written SEARCH's.
