This question about Topic Markup Language and applications: Answered

Mail merge with Templates or INCLUDE

I wish to use something like mail merge - create template topic with variables which might be changed for each new topic. Templates must be updatable, so that template change will affect topics which use mentioned template.

I accomplished that (partially) through creating template and set some variables for it:

  • Set SOFTWARE = Good software
  • Set FAVORITE = My favorite %Project% Good software is managed by Roman.

Then I created new topic by means of created template and typing.

My favorite Banana Good software is managed by Arnie.

However, when I modified template (set new text for favorite variable) it doesn't affect my topic. Is there any possibility to do that in Foswiki? It seems, that Mediawiki has such functionality out of the box.

I'm not exactly sure what you are trying but I suspect that you should probably try out the INCLUDE macro and not 'templates' see IncludeTopicsAndWebPages
