WikiNames not being normalized

I have NormalizeWikiNames enabled but I get the following in the apache error log:

NewUserPlugin - user's wikiname 'Namel-Name Lastname' is not a WikiWord ... not creating a homepage, referer:

do I have to change the ReWriteWikiNames? I left is as the default: '^(.*)@.*$' => '$1'

Commenting is disabled while not logged in
