AVATAR -- try to show a gravatar for a user

  • The %AVATAR{}% variable is handled by the AvatarPlugin
  • Syntax: %AVATAR{"UserWikiName" default="..." size="24"}%
  • Parameter default="..." - a default icon to use - Defaults to mm can be 404, mm, identicon, monsterid, wavatar, retro or a url to an image (see http://en.gravatar.com/site/implement/images/) - ignored if {UsePersonalInfoAddOn} setting is set in =configure=
  • Parameter size="..." - image size in pixels (just a number) - Defaults to 20
  • Example: %AVATAR{"SvenDowideit" default="identicon" size="48"}% - returns identicon

Configuration

You can select the avatar server to use in Extensions - AvatarPlugin - AvatarServerBaseUrl in configure

or you can tell the plugin to only use the Foswiki:Extension.PersonalInfoAddOn images - requires Foswiki:Extension.PersonalInfoAddOn and Foswiki:Extension.ImagePlugin

future development

  1. gravatar profile popups
  2. context aware size options (configurable default and size) - or perhaps replace plugin magic with a AVATAR for more control
  3. could it be possible to over-ride the remote server with a user topic setting? allowing local foswiki customisations

Installation

You do not need to install anything in the browser to use this extension. The following instructions are for the administrator who installs the extension on the server.

Open configure, and open the "Extensions" section. Use "Find More Extensions" to get a list of available extensions. Select "Install".

If you have any problems, or if the extension isn't available in configure, then you can still install manually from the command-line. See http://foswiki.org/Support/ManuallyInstallingExtensions for more help.
