Guidelines for sponsor presence in extension topics

This topic is comprised of guidelines for recognising sponsors on extensions such plugins and skins. A general guideline for sponsor presence on the project can be found at GuidelinesSponsorPresence.

Most extensions that are contributed to the project come from individuals or groups of individuals, who want to share their work. This is one of the great strengths of this project, and we want to say a HUGE THANKS to everyone!

Sometimes sponsors fund part or all of an extension project, or support it by providing services or equipment. They do this partly in exchange for visible acknowledgment. These simple guidelines are designed to help extension authors strike an appropriate balance when recognising sponsors in the Extensions web.

Note that these guidelines are part of Foswiki's bylaws.

General guidelines

Only upload free extensions. All extensions uploaded to the Plugins web should be licensed under the GPL, or another license that is wholly compatible with the GPL.

Don't redirect to an external download. The Extensions web has a process for downloads (attaching archives to the topic), and all contributors should follow it. It's important that we are able to track downloads, and that maintainers other than the original contributors can upload updates.

Artwork

If you want to have a corporate logo, or image incorporating a corporate logo, at the top of the plugin page, the image should fit in a 200 by 200 pixel box and must be a plain GIF, JPEG or PNG file with no animation. In particular, Flash programs are not allowed. Such images should be floated at the top right of the page. For example: <img style="float:right" src="%ATTACHURL%/wheelchair.jpg" width="200" height="200" /> Other images, such as screen captures, should not carry logos (unless they are critical to the presentation).

Sponsors

List sponsors in a simple bullet list in the 'Info' section of the topic. Sponsor names and logos may link to sponsor websites. Logos, if used, should be no wider than 100 pixels and no taller than 20 pixels, and must be a plain GIF, JPEG, or PNG file with no animation. In particular, Flash programs are not allowed. For example:
